The start of a new year

Alright ladies. 2009 has begun and it's definitely time for change. I still love book club and want to keep it going, but as you know, I have a history of sending really late evites...or not-at-all evites. I just wanted to change things up. Here are some ideas:

  • Compile a list of books we want to read for the whole year
  • Have hostesses also picked out for the year
  • We do the hostess's book pick at her house, she sends out the evites, prepares the food, leads the discussion, etc
  • Switch the day, maybe? Tuesday?
I'm open to all kinds of ideas. Please share!

This is a great way to organize book club! I've always thought that the leader of the discussion would make a good host because she could "theme up" the meeting with food or decorations. Anyway, I'm all in with the new design and I'm sorry I missed the meeting last night. I totally forgot and make other plans (not that I'd read the book anyway).

My book choices:

Read and Loved:
The Book Thief-Markus Zusak
Maidenstone Lighthouse-Sally Smith O'Rourke
Anything Jane Austen or a Jane Austen spinoff like Austenland-Shannon Hale (I have not read Austenland, but I've heard it's good).

Not Read:
Outliers or Blink-Malcolm Gladwell (he also wrote The Tipping Point)
Eat This Not That!-David Zinczenko, Matt Goulding (any of the many versions)
Three Cups of Tea-Greg Mortenson, David Oliver Relin (heard great reviews on this book)
Food Matters: A Guide to Conscious Eating with More than 75 Recipes-Mark Bittman
The Last Lecture-Randy Pausch, Jeffrey Zaslow (one again, heard great reviews on this one)
The Five Languages of Love-Gary Chapman (there are multiple versions of this book, children, mate, teenagers, apology and singles, I guess we could read what applies to us and share with everyone, I have no idea what the books are about though, I just saw it on the Top Amazon list)
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society- Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows
Things I Want My Daughters to Know-Elizabeth Noble
