The Books

Here is the place to post your favorite books, or just books you think will spur great discussion.

I posted a big list of books under the previous topic, but I wanted to post one of my favorite books here. It's called "The Book Thief" and it's by Markus Zusak. This book was selected by Salt Lake County Library to be the book of this summer and all county residents were encouraged to read and share discussion over the topic. I picked up a copy and loved the story line. It's about a girl living through the time of the Holocaust. The girl steals books throughout the story and they become part of her life regardless of the topic (the first book she steals is the Gravedigger's Manual that gets dropped at her brother's funeral in the opening chapters of the book). This book was a great read beyond the touching subject. The author really had an interesting way of writing and included drawings or whatever was necessary to help tell the story. I would love to reread this book for book club sometime.

I was going to suggest that we provide a short synopsis or a link to another site, such as amazon that we could read up about the book before we decide. I like to research things before I read them.
Would it be too much trouble to let everyone be an author on the blog, then we could just post about our choices and then create a poll to let everyone pick. Maybe we should put a time limit on choices and then open a poll to select the books.
I'm just brainstorming, but what do you think?

I thought about letting everyone be an author. How do you go about doing that? Would it get to crazy?

you just have to invite people to be authors, i can walk you through it if you need. I don't know, it might get too crazy. I'll look through the permissions you can set up and see if there is a way to regulate it.
